Glasses are homogeneous materials on a macroscopic scale but exhibit significant heterogeneity in deformation at the nanoscale, due to their disordered structure. In this course, we will examine how to predict these heterogeneities and what consequences they have for the mechanical and thermal properties of glasses. In particular, we will look at how composition and the manufacturing process influence these properties. One glass, or many glasses?
