Hydrology
Water is a vital resource, central to the sustainable development of human societies. It is critical for human life, healthy ecosystems, energy production, food production and security, among others.
Hydrology is the scientific discipline devoted to the study of water above, over and through the Earth. As an Earth Science, it examines the circulation of water through the atmosphere, across the land surface, and within the subsurface, seeking to understand the processes that govern its distribution, movement and availability.
- Catchment hydrology: water balance, physical processes, monitoring
- Surface hydrology: concepts, rainfall-runoff models, sensitivity analysis
- Hydrologic analysis and design: return periods, design flood
- Urban flood modelling
- Integrated river basin management
- Global (including climate change) impacts and adaptation pathways
Lecturers:
- Maria-Helena RAMOS, Research Director (INRAE; Coordinator)
- Olivier Delaigue, Data scientist, and Fanny Sarrazin, Research scientist (INRAE)
- Florian Cordier (EDF) and/or Kamal El Kadi Abderrezzak (CNR), Research engineers
This course comprises 10 classes (40 hours), including a final exam (project deliverable). Classes mainly include lectures, oral/written short exercices, role-play games, and hands-on computing and modeling/software exercices.
