This class introduces students to fundamental algebraic structures such as groups, rings, fields and vector spaces. It covers all basic properties of polynomials and endomorphisms in finite dimension, as well as the most important matrix decompositions and some of their applications.
The mathematical objects introduced in this class are absolutely central and ubiquitous in mathematics, as well for applications of mathematics to physics, biology (e.g. theoretical ecology, ODD15), neuroscience or computer science (e.g. Machine Learning, ODD9).
