[PHY582] Current trends in materials science
This course aims to provide current visions of state-of-the-art research, innovation, and industrial development in the broad field of materials science. It covers the entire spectrum from fundamental academic research to practical applications that impact daily life and society. Topics include quantum technologies, optoelectronics, sustainable energy, structural and surface science, colloids, 2D materials, eco-construction, and more.
The course is structured around a series of invited lectures delivered by researchers and engineers who have made significant contributions to materials science and engineering. Guest speakers are invited from leading academic institutions in France and around the world, as well as from high-tech industrial R&D centers. These individuals may serve as inspiring role models for students.
Following the course, each student will select one lecture topic of personal interest and prepare both a written report and an oral presentation. These will explore the chosen topic from scientific, technical, social, and economic perspectives.
