Anthropology and Ontology

 

How much of the way we see the world is due to culture? How are our experiences influenced by our backgrounds? What about the human experience is innate, and what is learnt? This course explores ontological beliefs from an anthropological perspective, drawing upon ethnographic data and social theory. The aim of is to deconstruct and analyse the social frameworks which shape our worldviews, and provide differing cultural perspectives from around the globe. 

Assessment: 33% mini ethnography; 33% oral presentation; 33% visual production.

 

Reading and assessment requirements: ~20 hours of independent study.

Week 3: Bodies, human and beyond
Week 4: Economies, societies, individuals
Week 5: Oral assessments
