SOUNDTRACKS OF CHANGE
Music is arguably the most primary and elementary of all the arts. Throughout history, it has evolved from a means of communication, group unity, and transcendence, into a tool of critical, political, and global change.
This course will revisit key 20th century events and movements through the lyrics and harmonies of engaged artists. From the Vietnam War, to Apartheid, Prohibition and Thatcherism, music will be the lens through which to view the cultural and societal changes that make up the world as we know it today. From the rise of feminism to the Civil Rights Movement and Black Lives Matter, discover how the power of music has echoed through history and continues to shape our future.
